Study Tours
Port Adelaide – Ports, Placemaking and Partnerships
Join PIA SA for a part-day study tour through one of Adelaide’s most distinctive and evolving urban places — Port Adelaide.
This walking tour will explore how planning, culture, heritage, renewal and development are shaping the future of the Port. Participants will hear directly from the City of Port Adelaide Enfield about development and planning work undertaken across the area, before visiting the Yitpi Yartapuultiku Aboriginal Cultural Centre for a guided tour with Cultural Ranger Willis Daveson. The tour will also include lunch at Pirate Life, followed by insights from Renewal SA on its Port Adelaide projects, including key learnings from urban renewal, delivery partnerships, place-making and the long-term transformation of the precinct. With its mix of working waterfront history, adaptive reuse, Aboriginal cultural connection, major renewal projects, heritage buildings, housing growth and emerging visitor economy, Port Adelaide provides a rich case study in how planning practice responds to complex places over time.
Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes, as the study tour will involve walking between locations across the Port Adelaide area.
Please note: Travel costs are not included in the registration fee. Attendees are encouraged to meet the tour host at Adelaide Railway Station and travel together by train to Port Adelaide.
