Indigenous Australian Scholarships
Planning Pathways: Scholarships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students
There has been identified an absence of any Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders either working or studying in the planning profession in Victoria, despite the need for planners with the appropriate cultural knowledge and sensitivity towards Indigenous land-use planning and heritage issues. The Planning Institute has therefore put together a new program with the State Government to create an internship program targeted specifically at Indigenous Australian students studying undergraduate tertiary planning degrees.
Successful students will be guaranteed 12 weeks of paid work experience as a student planner with a regional local council, and also receive a $13,000 per annum scholarship to put toward their study and living expenses for each year of their undergraduate degree. In addition, PIA will provide each student with support in the form of mentoring and professional development services.
PIA will also provide significant financial support toward the regional local councils who choose to host a student through this program.
There are 5 places available, and the Institute is currently taking applications from interested students and host councils.
