Recognition Re-imagined: How to Tackle Imposter Syndrome and Elevate Women at Work
Part of the Women in Planning Lunch & Learn Series, this session is one of eight nationally delivered events bringing together insights from Women in Planning Networks across Australia.
Each session is led by a different network and designed to explore topics that resonate across the profession offering practical takeaways, shared experiences and the chance to connect with peers nationwide.
"Every day, I speak to women who wonder if their work matters, if they’re making a difference, or if they’re “enough” to lead. Imposter syndrome, under-recognition, and burnout continue to sideline too many capable women. But we are stronger—and more resilient—when we see and celebrate each other. In this session, I’ll draw on global research from the Achievers Workforce Institute to unpack the gender gap in recognition and show how rethinking recognition can build confidence, connection, and culture.
We’ll explore:
• How unconscious bias shows up in recognition (and how to fix it)
• Why frequent, inclusive recognition is a powerful tool for building resilience and tackling imposter syndrome
• How recognition can uncover hidden talent and accelerate women into leadership
• The role of women supporting women: amplifying, advocating, and recognising each other
This isn’t about token praise or end-of-year trophies. It’s about creating cultures where women feel seen, valued, and empowered—every day.
You'll leave with tangible strategies to embed recognition into your leadership toolkit, support your team’s resilience, and uplift the women around you—because when we rise together, we lead stronger."
