VIC Women in Planning Network

About the VIC Women in Planning Network

The PIA Victorian Women in Planning Network is your local divisional group for Women Planners, supported by the VIC Division of PIA.

WPN formed as a not-for-profit organisation in 1994 to promote the role and interests of women in the planning and development industry. In the years since then, we have delivered research, programs, events and support to benefit women involved in planning and allied professions.

We have seen a transformation with more women in senior roles and working in the planning and development industries. Today, women enjoy a higher profile in the profession and many women involved in the network hold senior positions.

In 2014 we changed our operating structure away from being an incorporated association (where operating costs outweighed benefits due to no recurrent funding) to being a network of PIA. This way we can be more strategic and better use energy and resources to deliver our mission.

The network aims to increase gender equity in TAS planning. It also provides a space for all women in the planning profession to network and meet other like-minded professionals, discuss issues and find support for professional development from other women, as well as, advocate to increase gender equity in our profession, across all levels.

Core Functions

The WPN will continue the following core functions under the PIA umbrella:

  • The promotion, support and education of women within the planning and built environment industry within Victoria.
  • Raising the profile of professional women in planning through facilitation, engagement and professional development.
