Angela Forrest
Angela is a Senior Planning Adviser at the State Planning Office within the Department of State Growth and has been a driving force in shaping planning policy and regional land use strategies in Tasmania.
Over the past two years, Angela has led the review of regional land use strategies, ensuring they reflect contemporary planning challenges while maintaining a strong community and environmental focus. She has played a crucial role in coordinating cross-agency working groups, fostering stronger collaboration between local and state governments, and advocating for evidence-based planning policy.
Angela’s leadership extends beyond policy development—she is known for her tenacity in defending good planning principles in the face of political and commercial pressures. Judges noted her commitment to taking on leadership roles, her ability to navigate complex planning environments, and her dedication to achieving the best outcomes for Tasmania.
Beyond her technical expertise, Angela is a staunch advocate for gender equity in planning. She has actively mentored and supported female planners across Tasmania, particularly through her role in supporting and advocating for the three female regional planning coordinators. Judges commended her efforts in creating a culture of mentorship, empowering women to take on leadership positions and advocating for workplace flexibility to support working parents in planning roles.
