The Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) is the home of Australia's planning profession.
Founded in 1951, PIA is the national body representing planners across Australia. Our members work in government, consulting, development, infrastructure, academia and the community sector, helping to shape the cities, regions and communities where Australians live, work and thrive.
Planning has a critical role to play in addressing some of Australia's biggest challenges. From delivering more homes in well-planned places to responding to climate change, coordinating infrastructure, supporting productivity and managing growth, planners help communities navigate complexity, balance competing interests and make decisions for the long term.
PIA exists to champion planning, develop planners and connect the profession. Through advocacy, education, professional standards, accreditation and member services, we support planners to build capability, influence decision-making and create better outcomes for communities across Australia.
As a member-based organisation powered by professional staff and volunteers, PIA brings together the expertise, experience and leadership of Australia's planning profession. Together, we are helping shape a better future for Australia.
