The Development of a Planning Data Ecosystem in Ireland
This session will discuss the power of an intentional mindset

The Power of an Intentional Mindset

Part of the Women in Planning Lunch & Learn Series, this session is one of eight nationally delivered events bringing together insights from Women in Planning Networks across Australia.
Each session is led by a different network and designed to explore topics that resonate across the profession offering practical takeaways, shared experiences and the chance to connect with peers nationwide.

WPN(WA) invites you to a National Lunch & Learn with urban design strategist Susie Sexton, as she shares her future-focused approach to planning.

The discussion will outline and link the concept of an intentional mindset with design thinking, and how this approach can be applied to urban design and planning projects.

This session is designed for women in planning and allied professions who are interested in big picture and future-focused thinking, and are looking for some strategies to help keep “what and who are we planning for” at the top of their mind. Join us to hear how Susie approaches her work—proving what’s possible when women lead with purpose.

Speaker

Susie Sexton, Senior Planning Officer, Department of Planning Lands and Heritage - Design Policy

Susie is an accomplished urban design strategist with more than 20 years of experience across urban redevelopment, urban design, planning and design education. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture, a Post Grad Diploma of Education and a Master of Urban Planning. This background has informed the unique skill set and approach she applies to her work, where she uses a collaborative approach structured by design thinking to understand and work through barriers to the delivery of high quality, place responsive and human-centred environments.
During a secondment to METRONET she was instrumental in the development of Strategy and Policy to drive transformative, city shaping outcomes with well-considered infrastructure integration and urban design. This included leading the development of the Station Precinct Design Guide, the METRONET Public Art Strategy and making key contributions to development of the METRONET Sustainability Strategy to incorporate social sustainability with a focus on people and place.
Beyond her professional roles, she is a strong community advocate for places for people and design education. She is a member of The George Street Collective (part of the Town Teams movement) contributing to the development of initiatives and actions to enhance walkability, improve and expand green spaces, and support the prosperity of the local main street. Susie has also been a guest lecturer and project critique panel member for students in Urban Planning at Curtin University and volunteered as a guide for Open House Perth.
She is currently on sabbatical from her role as Project Lead for Neighbourhood Design, the long-awaited review of the award-winning Liveable Neighbourhoods Operational Policy, and is spending time riding her e-bike, travelling, and rewilding her front garden.
