FREE PUBLIC LECTURE: Tactical Urbanism - Bunbury
Streets are the life blood of our villages towns and cities, they are also some of our most important public spaces. Modern streets need to respond to the needs of people to make active vibrant and sustainable places. To do this we need a new design story. One where play space is more important than turning circles and shade, walkability and activity are more important that traffic level of service.
New design methodologies include genuine quick and simple trial and adjust options. Tactical urbanism a collection of low-cost, temporary changes to the built environment, usually in cities, intended to improve local neighbourhoods and city gathering places. We can use such interventions to test our ideas and perfect our designs, particularly if they are contemporary with limited reference sites for comparison.
Steven Burgess and Jessica Christiansen-Franks will discuss the lost art of designing streets for people and ways that we can use tactical urbanism to get our great street design ideas into practice.
