All planning involves working with change and choices about the future of communities, place, impacts and benefits. As planners we are often working with competing needs and values, where differences of opinion are accompanied by high emotions. But conflict doesn't need to be a destructive force on our projects or in our communities. With skills and practice, we can work with conflict to support innovation and creative thinking.
In this course we will explore strategies to better engage with and understand the perspectives of different stakeholders, manage expectations, build understanding and identify opportunities for alignment. the workshop will be highly interactive and experiential, with the opportunity to apply key tools and strategies to issues that participants are working with in their own practice.
