This session will provide a clear and practical legal overview of the latest reforms shaping the planning landscape. We will unpack the evolving statutory frameworks, recent legislative and policy changes.
 
Designed for planners across government, consultancy, and development sectors, this seminar will equip attendees with a grounded understanding of the legal context underpinning today’s reform agenda and key aspects of the reforms and their implications.

 

 

 

Speaker

Breellen Warry, Partner, Maddocks

With over 20 years’ experience, Breellen specialises in all areas of planning and environmental law. Breellen advises local and State Government clients, in addition to a range of private sector clients, including within the development industry and waste and education sectors. As well as working with private practice, she has worked as an inhouse counsel for a number of government agencies in NSW and in the UK. 
 
Breellen has particular expertise in providing practical and strategic legal advice on Federal and State planning and environmental approvals processes. This has included advising on some of the largest planning agreements in NSW on behalf of State government in connection with land rezoning. In addition, Breellen advises on waste regulation, contamination, biodiversity conservation, land access, environmental compliance, heritage matters and compulsory acquisition. 
 
Breellen is also an experienced litigator, representing clients in development appeals, judicial review, civil enforcement and criminal proceedings in the Land and Environment Court. She also handles section 88K applications in the Supreme Court of NSW. 
 
Breellen has been recognised in Legal 500 Asia Pacific as a Leading Partner for Environment and Planning, the Doyle's Guide as a Leading Planning & Development Lawyer – New South Wales and Best Lawyers for Planning and Development Law. Breellen was also awarded Australasian Lawyer’s ‘Elite Women in Law’ award in 2024.

Liz Densley RPIA (Fellow), Founder, Eight Mile Planning

Liz is a town planner with 25 years' professional experience in urban and regional planning in NSW. Having spent the large part of her career in Local Government, Liz moved to join Elton Consulting in 2016 and has this year founded Eight Mile Planning.

Liz is a passionate planner with expertise across land use policy, strategic and statutory planning working closely with both private and public sector clients.

Based in Mudgee in regional NSW, Liz has a particular interest in regional growth and development and delivering a planning framework which can be tailored and is relevant across the diverse jurisdictions to which it applies.
