PLANET VIC | Understanding Development Contributions

Development contributions are a key part of the Victorian planning system, facilitating the timely delivery of infrastructure.  This half-day session will unpack the operation of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 in relation to development contributions, examining how public infrastructure, works, services and facilities can be provided and funded.  It will explain how development contributions plans are prepared and implemented, and how works, services, and facilities may also be secured through planning permit conditions, section 173 agreements, or works-in-kind.

By the end of this session, attendees will be able to:
Explain how public infrastructure, works, and services can be required or funded under the Planning and Environment Act 1987.
Understand the policy rationale, legal basis, and operation of the Victorian development contributions system.
Recognise common pitfalls and compliance issues that arise in implementing contribution requirements.
