This course is designed to provide planners a basic understanding of the key concepts that underpin development feasibility such as: development yield, gross realisation, construction costs, financing, profit, risk and residual land value.  The course will also examine the impacts of planning on development feasibility including density controls, development contributions and affordable housing levies. It is intended for planners and other built environment professionals wanting to development their understanding on what makes development ‘stack-up’ and how the planning policies can impact the economics of development.

Presenter 

Andrew Spencer is a Principal at SGS Economics and Planning and has 25 years of experience spanning planning, urban design and urban economics in both the public and private sector.  He is deeply interested in how design, regulation and markets interact to shape cities.  Andrew has undertaken numerous economic analysis of planning and design policies include cost-benefit analysis, value capture analysis and development feasibility studies, in collaboration with developers, valuers and quantity surveyors.
