Young Planner Scholarship

Outdoor Media Association Inc.Michelle Willemse, an urban planner with Brisbane City Council’s Natural Environment & Sustainability unit is the third recipient of the $15,000 international Young Planners Scholarship, funded by the Outdoor Media Association (OMA) and sponsored by the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).

The Outdoor Media Association (OMA) is the national peak industry body representing companies involved in or associated with outdoor advertising in Australia.

Around the world, outdoor advertising encompasses a wide range of formats; from traditional posters to the vibrant digital displays seen in cities such as London, Shanghai and New York. Outdoor advertising provides essential community services such as bus and tram shelters, pedestrian bridges and other amenities. However, both planners and the outdoor media industry face many challenges when trying to integrate outdoor advertising into the environment, especially when new technologies are involved. The OMA and the Planning Institute Australia (PIA) are therefore offering one lucky planning student or recent graduate a scholarship of up to $15,000 to travel overseas and research how these issues are managed in international locations. The scholarship will also give the successful applicant the opportunity to share this knowledge with their peers back home.
