Victorian Provincial Planners Network

The Victorian Division of the Planning Institute of Australia is very pleased to announce the formation of the Victorian Provincial Planners Network (VPPN), which is designed support all persons working in planning in rural and regional Victoria.

The Network will undertake a range of tasks on behalf of planners and planning in provincial Victoria, in particular:

  • promote, support and lobby for the particular needs and interests of planners
  • provide professional support
  • conduct events, including training and continuing professional development
  • programs
  • assist in circulating information
  • provide advice and representations to government and relevant agencies, and
  • raise the profile of planning and planners

The VPPN has initially been established by utilizing the 105 members of the PIA who reside in provincial Victoria. As a PIA member residing in provincial Victoria, the Division has automatically included you in the inaugural list of members of the Network.

Invitations have also been sent to all those persons who work in planning across provincial Victoria or who have a particular interest in planning issues in provincial Victoria to join.

PIA is also delighted to announce that the Municipal Association of Victoria is also supporting the VPPN as a means of improving the voice and representation of the interests of planners in provincial Victoria.

  • CHARTER

The purpose of the VPPN is to provide a forum for planners living, working or with a professional interest in provincial Victoria to pursue mutual objectives and advance common interests and issues, with the aim of enhancing the professional and policy support environment impacting on provincial Victoria's cities, towns and rural communities.

  • MEMBERSHIP

VPPN is principally comprised of professionals actively involved in spatial planning in provincial Victoria, but involvement in the Network is open to all with an interest in planning (spatial, social, environmental, transport) and related issues beyond the state's metropolitan area.

  • MEETINGS

The first VPPN event held was a Hands-On Workshop for Planners - on Friday16 June at Bendigo. As a follow up to a recent workshop held at Ballarat on rural planning issues and the submission to the Carbines Review this workshop was designed to provide direct skills and knowledge for planners working in provincial Victoria.

The leadership group is preparing a brief charter to assist the group and this will be circulated soon.
