VIC Division
Young Planners
In March 1996, PIA National Council endorsed the National Young Planner's Policy in response to a need to address the needs and aspirations of younger planners. The policy recognises the role of young planners within the Institute and the Institute's role in supporting its younger planners.
As a result of this policy, and the need to provide representation of younger planners at a national level, in August 1997, the National Council elected a young planner's representative to the National Council and established the National Young Planners Group (NYPG) as a committee of the National Council. The NYPG consists of a representative from each State and Territory Division of PIA. The current Victorian Representative on the NYPG is Sarah Oberklaid. The role of the NYP is to represent the views of young planners at a national level, inform young planners of national level decisions and policies, and facilitate communication between Divisional young planner's organisations. More information can be found at here.
The work and initiatives of NYP committee is also important as they have been successful in obtaining annual grants of $500 for the Young Planners committee in each State.

VYPG - MEMBERSHIP
The VYP (Victorian Young Planners) is your local divisional group of the NYPG (National Young Planners Group), supported by the Victorian division of PIA. We are here to connect, support and inform Victorian Young Planners, through events, regular updates and representation.
Being a member of the VYP provides you with opportunities including:
- Education / Professional Development - members are regularly notified of opportunities to attend seminars, forums and discussions organized by the Institute on critical planning issues or topical planning projects.
- Socialising - The Institute provides ample opportunities for planners to mingle with others from the profession in a relaxed and fun atmosphere over the course of the year.
- Representation - It's worthwhile to participate in an organisation that actively seeks to have issues relevant to the profession raised in the public domain.
- Networking - The Institute provides an environment where it is easy to develop new contacts within the profession.
