approximately 900 of those members of the Victoria Division. It is the only national organisation
representing professional urban, regional, social, environmental, transport,
economic planners and urban designers.
PIA's vision is
to support the Australian planning profession and community in the creation of
liveable communities, vibrant economies, sustainable places, diverse cultural
expression and social cohesion.
The Planning
Institute aims to serve the public interest of urban and regional communities
through its activities by the:
- Promotion of the professional interests of its
members;
- Establishment
and administration of standards of professional competency;
- Provision
of training to increase its member's knowledge;

Victorian Bushfire Recovery
|
|
|
|
|
|
| PIA (Vic) has been overwhelmed with members wanting to respond to
the unprecedented fire tragedy which Victoria
is experiencing.
In response to the catastrophic February 2009 Victorian bushfires, a network of organisations representing professionals and businesses working in the built environment sector has been formed to
assist with recovery work in the coming months.
A formal
relationship with the State and Local Governments will be established
to provide assistance in conjunction with the local communities to
undertake statutory and strategic planning, cadastral surveying, urban
design, architecture and other reconstruction activities.
We are currently taking Expressions of Interest from people who would
like to volunteer to assist in the recovery programs in areas of
Victoria affected by the February 2009 bushfires.
Download a Form here to express an interest in volunteering in this significant recovery work.

Over the years there has been increasing awareness of the synergies that exist and the "cause and effect" relationship between planning decisions and the impact these decisions have on the health of our community.
This awareness has raised genuine concerns that while the community,
collectively and individually, continues to pay the social and
financial health burden costs associated with various "lifestyle"
diseases such as diabetes, obesity and heart disease, various aspects
of planning and urban management continue to reinforce these unhealthy
and costly trends.

Planning Report Card 2008
|
|
|
|
|
|
| Planning Report Card—Telling it like it is!
In April 2006, PIA
announced it would develop a planning opinion poll which would allow
the profession to peer review the performance of our planning systems
and current planning outcomes across the nation.
| The results of the first Report Card, released on World Town Planning
Day, 8 November 2006, attracted considerable media, political and community
interest.
In
September 2008 PIA once again invited the planning profession to ‘tell it like it
is', conducting its third ‘state of the nation' opinion poll. The
results are honest, clear and revealing. To access the survey results please visit 2008
