Know Your Street
Know Your Street is a PIA QLD Division project.
Where we live, work and play significantly influences our lifestyles. This is due to our perception of what a place is like and what we can do there. Whether it is a residential area where our children can play in the local park, where we can duck down to the local newsagency for the paper, and have some mates over for a BBQ in the backyard, or a bustling main street, where we go to have coffee with friends and go shopping, our perception of a place influences the way we interact with it. As such, it is important to understand how our streets, neighbourhoods and cities are developed, so that they are places that we want to go to and be part of.
There are many different tools that are used to determine how a place is developed, but the primary tool is a Council’s town planning scheme. A planning scheme assigns a land use designations which outlines a framework for the future development of an area.
Know Your Street will help you develop a better picture of how your community might look in the future and encourage you to become involved.
