Representation on Committees
PIA is a member of several key national organisations and committees, and through these committees pro-actively contributes to the development of policies on significant national planning issues:
Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC). PIA is a member of ASBEC, which is a peak organisation committed to creating a sustainable built environment.
Development Assessment Forum. Governments, development industry and professional groups are working together to create an identify leading edge approaches to development assessment in Australia. As a member of DAF, PIA has contributed to the development of a number of reports and discussion papers. In October 2005, Ms Sue Holliday, the incoming PIA President will be the Chair of the Forum.
The DAF "Leading Practice Model for Development Assessment" provides a blueprint for jurisdictions for a simpler, more effective approach to development assessment. It achieves this by defining ten leading practices that a development assessment system should exhibit, and then by applying the ten leading practices to six development assessment pathways/tracks. On 4 August 2005, at a meeting of the Ministerial Council, Local Government Ministers and Planning Ministers acknowledged the Model in their communiqué as "an important reference for individual jurisdictions in advancing reform of development assessment".
