Policy Program

PIA undertakes policy at a national level and in states and territories, dealing with a wide range of issues. Policy typically takes the form of Position Statements, Submissions and Policy Guides. To view a listing of all existing PIA Position Statements and Submissions by topic click here “Policy Update July 2009”.

In addition to the National Position Statements currently available, the following Statements are currently being developed and are due for completion by June 2010:

  • Housing markets
  • Funding Community Infrastructure
  • Housing
  • Public Participation
  • Regional Development
  • Strategic planning.

Submissions are prepared in response to various inquiries, programs and documents released for comment. For more information, please view the PIA Submissions on a range of policy issues.

In order to provide a greater service to PIA members students and other interested people, Policy Guides are being developed to provide a policy resource on key topics. These Guides provide a range of information including background, research, useful links and PIA Position Statements. The following Policy Guides are currently being developed and are due for completion by June 2010:

  • Housing
  • Airports
  • Bushfires
  • Urban growth management
  • Transport
  • Urban design
  • Strategic Planning

Assistance from members is sought to providing details of any good sources, links, papers, policies, programs, books or images that you are aware of that would be suitable to include in the Policy Guides.

Information for the Policy Guides, or any comments or ideas on the policy program can be submitted to policy@planning.org.au.
