Green Star Communities

Greenstar Communities

The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) continues to promote government and industry participation in the Green Star – Communities project, which is establishing best practice standards for the planning, design and delivery of sustainable communities across Australia. The project has recently been boosted with the addition of Australand and Stockland as Gold Sponsors, who join other private developers Lend Lease, Brookfield Multiplex, Grocon and Mirvac. These private developers are working alongside representatives from all of Australia’s eight Government Land Development Organisations who are also sponsoring the project.

The development of the Green Star – Communities rating tool reached its first milestone in December 2010 when the Technical Working Committee (TWC) submitted its first draft credits for review by the GBCA. This review is complete and the 45 draft credits will now enter a second phase of development. Draft credit names and aims can be found on the Green Star – Communities website at www.greenstarcommunities.org.au. These draft credits will continue to be refined throughout the year and will form the basis of the PILOT rating tool to be released for testing in late 2011 or early 2012.

Further information about the project can be obtained by contacting Adam Beck (GBCA Sustainable Communities Manager) on 0410 506 043 or adam.beck@gbca.org.au.
