Natural Environment and Sustainability Branch provides policy and strategic advice to the Lord Mayor, Councillors, CEO and other Council Divisions and Business Units, on matters including, sustainability, pollution prevention, open space planning, biodiversity planning and waste management.

In joining our Planning Section, your role plays an integral part in the coordination of successful outcomes for the National Reserve System Project. As the central point of contact, you will extensively liaise, negotiate and facilitate achievement of outcomes and deliverables with the 11 partner Councils, Federal government and key stakeholders.

You will also:

maintain, monitor and meet deliverable of agreements, contracts, partnerships and communications, whilst monitoring systems at local, state and federal levels for delivery of program outcomes and outputs
use your understanding of protected area management, reserve planning and management for successful delivery of program and project outcomes
provide expert strategic and outcome-focussed advice to key internal and external stakeholders
review, monitor, evaluate, develop and deliver the annual Project Business Plan with input from key stakeholders, for submission to local, state and federal government.

The ideal candidate will have:

proven knowledge and experience in identification, assessment and reporting of local and state conservation values, application of landscape ecology, strategy development principles, as they relate to urban environments
experience in project planning, management, implementation and evaluation of projects, whilst meeting set timeframe and budgetary requirements
well developed research, analytical and problem-solving skills to compile reports and for provision of appropriate expert advice, recommendations and decisions
strong interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills, to successfully liaise, problem-solve, negotiate and mediate between key internal and external stakeholders, at local, state and federal government levels.

A proven background and/ or qualification in environmental science, ecological planning or environmental management is desirable.
