Australian Planner

Australian Planner is the national journal published by the Planning Institute of Australia. Australian Planner is the most read and influential planning journal in Australia and the Pacific Region. It is published quarterly, distributed in March, June, September and December each year. With a circulation of about 4,600, readership includes those involved in the planning profession including government officials, university staff and students, urban designers, urban, regional, social, environmental, economic and transport planners, as well as those involved in related industries, both nationally and overseas. All members of PIA receive 4 editions of Australian Planner annually. Australian Planner provides a forum for planning news, opinion and research.  Each edition of Australian Planner contains a component surrounding a particular theme or topic of interest.   Past themes have included special features on

Aus Planner June 2010

Themes for future editions are listed below under ‘Contributions to Australian Planner’.

Australian Planner has become a well respected publication and a very popular source of knowledge and information for professional planners and those involved in the built environment.

Advertising in Australian Planner

Australian Planner is the only journal of its kind in Australia, the only magazine published specifically for the planning profession. Australian Planner has a high level of audience receptivity because it is specifically targeted and is a sought after source of information for the planning sector. The primary advantage of advertising in the Planner is its ability to reach a specialised and targeted audience not currently offered by other publications.

Our special features provide advertisers with an opportunity to reach a specific audience within the profession, or ally themselves with a particular topic or subject.

As of January 2010, the Australian Planner will be published by Rutledge and all advertising handled by Rutledge. There are many options available for advertising in the Australian Planner, including display advertising, advertising your firm in the Directory of Planning Services, or promoting an event.

Advertising enquiries should be directed to Emily Fraser by email to:  advertising@tandf.com.au.

Most importantly, contributions should be relevant to the practice and development of urban and regional planning. Please ensure that writing is clear, concise and remains pertinent to Australian planning. Without precluding national or state level initiatives, the editors will not accept material that is promotional or advertorial. PIA reserves the right to edit, alter or reject any material submitted.

Focus articles

DEADLINES WILL BE STRICTLY ADHERED TO, and we cannot accept updated versions of your article after the deadline.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR NAME IS ON EVERY PAGE OF YOUR ARTICLE

Each article should stand on its own, and should be accessible to non-experts.  The purpose of the Australian Planner special feature is to inform, educate and stimulate debate on issues in the industry and community, related to a particular topic relevant to, or involved in, planning.

Contributions to the special feature of Australian Planner are not subject to blind peer review. They should address the designated topics for each edition and should be no more than 1,000 to 1,500 words in length. Although it is not necessary for feature articles to contain references, they are encouraged as a strengthening component. Contact PIA for submission guidelines.  Submissions should be directed to PIA Marketing and Communication Coordinator: Australian Planner, Email: marketing@planning.org.au

Peer Review.
Papers submitted for peer review are subject to ‘blind’ peer review by 2 independent reviewers. Peer review articles should be 5,000 to 6,000 words in length. Peer review can be a lengthy process, therefore contributors should be aware it may take a minimum of 6 months for their manuscript to be accepted or rejected.

Authors of peer review submissions should submit their papers on line by logging into ManuscriptCentral at ScholarOne’s website:http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/rapl

Contributors should include name, address, electronic contacts (telephone, fax, email) and brief biographical details of the author/s.

Book Reviews.
Reviews of 500-800 words are welcome but please confirm with the Editor prior to submission. A cover image is desirable. Authors of reviewed books may be given the right to reply to critical reviews.  Book review guidelines are available from ausplanner@griffith.edu.au

Letters to the Editor.
Letters to the Editor are encouraged and thoughtful comments on previous contributions are welcome.  Please forward electronically to PIA National Office, providing all contact information for the author/s.
