Port of Melbourne Boat Tour

The Port of Melbourne is Australia’s largest container and general cargo port, handling 37% of the nation’s container trade. More than 40 shipping lines make 3,300 ship calls a year to Melbourne from major ports all over the world.

With its inner-city location and significant role in the continuing growth of the Victorian economy, the Port of Melbourne has a number of planning challenges to overcome in order to operate efficiently and effectively in the future.

Made possible by the fantastic support of the Port of Melbourne Corporation, PIA invites you to this 1.5-hour boat tour to get an in-depth, on-the-ground look at these challenges. Port of Melbourne Corporation staff will provide on-board commentary describing the port’s operations, supply chain logistics and current port interface planning issues as they relate to both urban and rural Victoria. Specific topics will include buffer issues, traffic/freight movements, gentrification, shared open spaces and environmental impacts.

Thanks to the generosity of the Port of Melbourne Corporation, the tour includes light refreshments, snacks and information packs for all participants.

There will also be a networking function following the tour from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.
