This seminar will discuss the implications of recent VCAT decisions regarding the expiry of permits in the context of subdivisions and the certification and registration of plans in a staged subdivision. Speakers will discuss the impact of the recent decisions on existing permits and consider the options available for developers to continue with their developments and issues councils must consider to ensure that extensions are valid.

Ian Pridgeon, Principal, Russell Kennedy
Ian is the Team Leader of the Government, Planning and Environment Team at Russell
Kennedy. His primary areas of practice include town planning, local government,
environment and building law. Ian is a Law Institute of Victoria accredited specialist in
Environment and Planning Law and is a Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia.

Nick Sissons, Solicitor, Russell Kennedy
Nick is qualified in both town planning and the law and has practiced in both
professions prior to joining Russell Kennedy. Nick works predominantly for councils in
the planning, environmental and property areas. Nick’s planning experience includes
planning compliance and enforcement as well as urban and regional planning.
