Goal of Planning Week:
To promote to the wider community the role and importance of planning in our urban and regional futures, to celebrate the achievements of planning in attaining liveable communities and achieve tangible change in community awareness of planning.
Objectives:
- To promote planning as a positive, forward looking endeavour in contrast to the planning issues which have dominated the public consciousness in recent years
- To emphasise the need to selectively and intelligently intervene in development processes at all levels to create sustainable urban and regional futures
- To provide a counterpoint to the rationalist view that smaller government and the inherent wisdom of the market forces is the way to manage our cities and regions
- To consciously address young people especially school children
- To ensure that the program is delivered in rural and regional areas
- To emphasise the need for personal involvement in community policy and plan making
